What you need
- The board and the cards. Put the cards in piles, by type, face down.
- A dice. If you don’t have one, fold one (at the bottom of this sheet).
- A counter for everyone. Cut them out below, or use a button or a coin.
How to play
- Everyone puts a counter on Start. Whoever had the most recent birthday goes first.
- Throw the dice and move that many squares forward.
- Do what the square says. Take the top card from the matching pile.
- Then it is the next player’s turn, going clockwise.
- When the first counter reaches Finish, the game is over. Or agree to keep playing until everyone is there.
You can always pass
With any card you can say ‘pass’ or take another card. You don’t have to explain why. Whoever leads the game can take out cards that don’t fit right now.
After the game
Talk a little longer. Which question did you like best? What do you know about someone now that you did not know before?
The squares
- Question A question from the piles in play.
- Do A small task: draw something, act something out, name three things.
- Choose This or that? Choose and say why.
- Mirror Everyone answers the same question, in turn.
- Compliment Give someone at the table a compliment.
- Joker You choose: a question from three, ask your own question, or skip.
- Bridge Cross the bridge, three squares ahead. The square where you land is the one that counts.
- Bench Take a rest. You miss your next turn.
- Chance The dice chooses the pile: 1 or 2 Question, 3 Do, 4 Choose, 5 Mirror, 6 Compliment.
Counters to cut out
Write your letter in your counter.
A dice to fold
Cut it out along the thick line. Fold along the dotted lines and glue the edges down.

How it works
- Set up the game: who is playing, which piles of questions are in play, how deep the questions go and how long the board is.
- Whoever’s turn it is throws the dice. The counter moves forward that many squares by itself.
- Do what the square says: answer a question, do a small task, choose between two things or give someone a compliment.
- With any card you can pass or take a different question. Then it is the next player’s turn.
- When the first counter reaches Finish, the game is over. In the review you can see which questions came up.
The squares
- Question: a question from the piles in play.
- Do: a small task, such as drawing something, acting something out or naming three things.
- Choose: this or that? Choose and say why.
- Mirror: everyone answers the same question, in turn.
- Compliment: give someone at the table a compliment.
- Joker: you choose a question from three, ask your own question, or skip.
- Bridge: you move three squares ahead. The square where you land is the one that counts.
- Bench: take a rest. You miss your next turn.
- Chance: the dice chooses the pile.
Each square has its own small symbol and a word. On a narrow screen the words are not on the board, but below it, under The squares.
Piles and depth
There are eight piles of questions: Getting to know each other, Home and family, School and work, Feelings, Friendship, The future and dreams, Together in a group, and Our work. The last one is for care workers among themselves, for example in peer supervision. Each pile has questions at three depths: light, medium and deep. Start with light if you don’t know each other well yet.
For whoever leads the game
Are you a care worker playing with your client, a family or a group? Under Settings you can skip a turn, move a counter and change the piles or the depth. You can also look at every card there and put aside cards that don’t fit right now. You can do this beforehand too, when you set up the game. With Pause you pause the game for a moment.
Play along yourself. Then you answer questions too, just like the others.
Playing on paper
Choose the On paper step. You print the board on one A4 or on two A4s to stick together, the cards to cut out (nine on an A4, with a back for each type) and the rules with counters. If you don’t have a dice, there is one on the rules sheet to cut out and fold.
Good to know
- Everything works with the keyboard. After a throw the focus goes to the card, after a turn to the dice.
- Below the board you will find the board as a list: every square, and who is on it.
- A Do task sometimes comes with a sand timer. It stays off until you turn it on. You can pause it or add more time.
- Would you rather play with a real dice? Choose that when you set up the game. Then you tap what you threw.
- Talk board does not give advice. Does something come up that worries you? Talk about it with someone you trust, your GP or a care worker. Are you thinking about suicide? Call or chat with 113 (the Dutch suicide prevention line), free on 0800-0113. In an emergency, call 112.
